Specifications

1. Properties
Oxalic Acid, or dicarboxylic acid is a chemical compound of Hydrogen, Carbon and Oxygen.
Oxalic acid and oxalates are present in many plants, including black tea, and occur naturally in animals. Calcium oxalate is the most common component of kidney stones.


2. Storage
Oxalic acid should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area in tightly sealed containers.


3. Function and use
Perhaps its best known use is that as a wood bleaching agent. And a few other uses for oxalic acid as below:

1)Precipitating agent in Rare-earth mineral processing;

2)Bleaching agent in the textile activities, wood pulp bleaching;

3)Rust remover for Metal treatment;

4)Used in commercial rust removers to remove rust stains from tubs and sinks.

5)Grinding agent, such as marble polishing

6)Waste water tratment, removing calcium in water.

7)Use in cleaning and sterilizing homebrewing equipment.

8)Useful as a reducing agent for photography and ink removal

9)Used as purifying agent in pharmaceutical industry

10)Rock collectors, clean mineral specimens

11)Remove food and rust stains from kitchen countertops, plumbing fixtures and fabric

12)As a mordant in dyeing processes.


4. Brief production process
Oxalic acid is mainly manufactured by the oxidation of carbohydrates or glucose using nitric acid or air in the presence of vanadium pentoxide.


5. ROH + 4 CO + O2 2 (CO2R)2 + 2 H2O
These diesters are subsequently hydrolyzed to oxalic acid. Approximately 120, 000 metric tons are produced annually.
